Halloween has always had a special place in my heart.  Whether you enjoy super scariness or simple spooks to celebrate Halloween, one thing is certain, Halloween has to have treats!  Spiderweb Cupcakes are my go-to Halloween treat for any seasonal party.  The best part of Spiderweb Cupcakes is how simple they are!  It’s spooky how simple.  Read on to make your own Spooky Simple Spiderweb Cupcakes!

First, gather your ingredients and tools.  The things you will need to make Spooky Simple Spiderweb Cupcakes are:

  1. cupcakes
  2. frosting
  3. decorative color gel icing–I always use Wilton Sparkle Gel
  4. spider rings–you can find these almost anywhere this time of year
  5. toothpicks

Of course it all starts with cupcakes.  Choose any liner you like.  So many fun Halloween cupcake liners come out this time of year and any will do.  If you can find spiderweb printed ones that makes it even better!  Sometimes I find the spiderweb cupcake design stands out best when a solid liner is used, but it’s up to you.

Bake as many cupcakes as you like.  Frost them with a layer of your frosting.  Try to make it smooth with the back of a knife or spatula, but no need for perfection here.  Of course, I always recommend my whipped cream/cream cheese frosting.  Now your cupcake canvas is set for some spooky spiderweb decoration!

After frosting the cupcake it’s time to use the gel icing and start the spooky spiderweb decorating!  Place a dot in the center of your cupcake with the gel icing.  Then continue using the gel icing to draw several circles around the dot.  It will look like a target or bullseye with all the rings completed.  Do not draw these rings all the way out to the edge.  We need the space for the next step to complete the spooky spiderweb look!

Now take a clean toothpick and place the tip in the center dot.  Place it just beneath the surface of the black gel icing.  Drag the toothpick from the center to the edge of the cupcake.  I find about a 45 degree angle to work best.  Rotate your cupcake and continue dragging the toothpick from the center to the edge of the cupcake.  You may want to clean or replace your toothpick every now and then.  Final step, insert your spooky spider rings.  There you are!  Spooky Simple Spiderweb Cupcakes!

Spooky simple aren’t they?  These make such a statement for any Halloween party.  I’ve made them for years and they continue to be my favorite Halloween treat.  Customizing them and changing the color scheme is my favorite way to make them more fun each year.  Mixing the colors of the gel icing in the spiderweb is one of my favorite variations.  Which is your favorite?

Spiderweb Cupcakes are a simple design anyone can do.  I can’t wait for the day these branch out from Halloween too!  Can’t you just see these with  red and black web for a Spiderman birthday party?  Maybe even pink for the girls?  A Little Miss Muffet or nursery rhyme party with little pink spiders and webs sounds super adorable.  The possibilities will amaze you.

What ideas or colors do you have for these spiderweb cupcakes?  Make them this Halloween for all your spooky celebrations.  Perfect themed treats don’t have to be complicated when you take time to Just Be Slower.  Enjoy!
