The Sound

The Sound

IMG_0219

So I woke up annoyingly early today just out of the blue.  My husband is at work, the baby is sleeping like a baby and the cats cuddle silent at my feet.  Not sure what got me up, but something did.  As I try to fall back asleep I hear it.  Some tiny sound coming from somewhere.

What on earth is that I wonder and groan, pulling the blanket over my face.  I could still hear it.  Something tinkling?  Maybe a cat playing with a toy?  No, they’re both right here.  Hmmm oh well back to sleep.

Tink tink tink.

There it is again!  What is that?  Maybe it’s a drippy faucet downstairs.  Oh it better not be, there’s enough things I clean up after these days.  I close my eyes trying to will the sound to stop and make whatever could be wrong downstairs fix itself.  Nope, nothing stops the tinkling whistle whatever sound.

Downstairs I go.  Stomping my sleepy self toward the sound.  Nothing is moving or dripping that I can see and of course now I hear nothing.  Rolling my eyes I head back to the stairs.

It starts again.

That sound is definitely downstairs somewhere.  So I follow it.  By the sink?  No.  Living room?  No, the sound fades when I go in there.  I am back in the kitchen completely perplexed because I hear this light tinking-whistle still and can’t seem to locate the source to stop it.  I fumble through a couple of my husband’s electronic things he always seems to have strewn about, and still none of those seem to be the resounding culprit.

I feel like this noise is out to get me and is enjoying the hunt I am on trying to silence it.  I am determined.  Whatever it is must be what woke me and I have come to teach it a lesson and relish in the silence I return to the house once I have found it!

That’s when I find it!

Sitting there all small and seemingly innocent making it’s noise and determined to keep me awake and make me think I’ve gone nuts.  Darn little bird on the table outside.  Oh goodness.  A bird.  What on earth is it doing singing and waking me up with its foreign nature noises at this hour?!  I roll my eyes and head back to the stairs once more.

Don’t let the photo fool you, that feathered creature was there.
